Times Square, New York City

About a month and a half after we started dating, Jacky mentioned that she would love to be able to go to New York City in the winter-time and see snow. I instantly knew that would be my method of proposal. I just had to wait for an eternity to be able to actually propose.

The final plan -- after Abby got a-hold of it (thanks Abby for making my original plan so much better)

  1. Fly Jacky and her sister Marjorie (The Girls) up to NYC on unused tickets their friend Abby in NYC had bought on a cheap internet special for her parents. Her parents weren't going to be in town to use them so Abby would then offer them to The Girls.
  2. Abby offers the tickets to The Girls while she is down visiting in FL.
  3. The Girls fly up to NYC on January 5 and enjoy the day in NYC
  4. I fly up early January 6 and scout out the Proposal Location (PL). (The exact PL kept changing up to the last day.)
  5. Abby brings The Girls to the PL and they stumble upon me.
  6. I propose
  7. Jacky says "Yes" (well, that's my plan anyway)

October 31 (Halloween, go figure) I started MySpacing Abby to see if she would be game for my plan; she was all for it. I then had to make sure I could count Marjorie in as well (free trip to NYC to see her sister proposed to -- of course she was in:)

November 15 Abby met up with Jacky and Marjorie at Beachplace in Ft. Lauderdale to see them while she was in town for the week. She asked them if they would want to fly up to New York, using a couple tickets she had already bought for her parents which were going to go unused. Jacky and Marjorie both agreed (free trip to NYC -- of course they were in). This would be the first time for both of them to see snow.

November 16 I purchased the "unused" tickets from JetBlue. I then bought myself one for the next morning. The three of us would be on the same flight home.

November 22 Noel and Shawn (my sister and brother-in-law) told me they wanted to be there for the proposal so they purchased tickets for the same flights I would be on. That was an incredible surprise for me!

January 5 I drove Jacky and Marjorie to the airport then went to work. After work I went home, packed, then went to my sister's house to have a last farewell with my parents and then to spend the night.

January 6 my sister, her husband, and I went to the airport at the crack of dawn. After flying in to NYC, we settled into our hotel room then walked to Central Park. We met up with Abby's husband Bryan at our hotel near Times Square around 1:30pm. After having a quick lunch at Jamba Juice we painstakingly scouted the exact proposal location in Times Square. Bryan called Abby with the final spot and, around 3:30pm, they emerged from the subway near Times Square. On the ride in, Abby had told Jacky and Marjorie that she had a surprise for both of them. Once they got to the right place right in the middle of Times Square she had Jacky and, seemingly, Marjorie put covers over their eyes and had them stand there while the rest of us came out of hiding and ran up to her. I went up right in front of her, got on one knee, and waited for the cover to be removed from her eyes. At 3:34 pm, Abby lifted the cover and, I asked Jacky to marry me. In the midst of her shock and the time it took to register what had just happened (and what all had most likely gone in to what had just happened) there was a semblance of a positive response.

She hasn't stopped thanking me :)
